The Schools Music Festival organised by the Curriculum and Materials Development Unit (CAMDU) was created with the aim of developing the musical skills of both teachers and students, and presenting an avenue for the showcasing of the work which goes on in the schools. As a result, this festival integrates the different aspects of the music program and will feature the best performances from the district music festivals held in November, in choir, solo singing, and instrumental music, which are creative, entertaining, and outstanding. • Encourage schools and students to study and explore plays and poetry, espe-cially those of St Lucia’s Nobel Laureate for Literature.
• Provide an avenue to showcase the talent of the youth in the area of Literature and the visual and performing Arts.
• Showcase original theatrical performances related to the Nobel Laureate Festi-val themes.

The play originally written in French has been translated into Kwéyòl by veteran dramatist Allan Weekes. This father and son team is well known for their excellent productions of Creole Theatre.

This current project is expected to be exciting not only because it will be performed in French and Kwéyòl but also because it will be used as a stimulus for a discussion on the similarities and differences between the two languages; a discussion which will be chaired by French Cultural Attaché, Monsieur Stephan Dovert.

“Broken Pillars” St. Mary’s College takes a closer look at the bombardment of our society’s pillars and what appears to be a hopeless reality where crime and lawlessness seem to reign unabated. Through a display of poetry, drama, spoken word, song and dance, we hope to convince you that the talents of the young people is not merely a means to entertain and pass the time but is part of an answer to the question of How can we change the attitude of breaking down to one of building up, of restoration and growth.
